Bluehost Customer Experience

Bluehost offers three avenues for support: chat, phone, and ticket system. I tested each system since the last blog entry and here are my findings.

Chat Support
After selecting my department and sub-department I was quickly connect to 'Brandon' who appears to have an automated reply that he handles multiple chat sessions at once, and to please understand if he doesn't reply right away. While I like the fact that I was able to get a response to my chat request right away, the replies weren't as fast as I would like, but that is better than waiting while I am in a queue for the next operator. My questions were answered to my satisfaction and I was overall pleased. I would only suggest a chat support for a quick question and not any involved problem.

Ticket System
The ticket system is a support system that I see more and more web hosts going to. Bluehost's ticket system is no different from others, as you login in and leave your comments. After a email reply acknowledging the ticket I waited. It took 3 hours to get a response on a non-critcal question, so I guess 3 hours isn't bad. Hopefully they are spending more focus on the critical issues.

Phone System
My favorite by far. I got a person on the line quickly and had my question answered very quickly.

Overall, Bluehost has a decent support system judging by my experiences that one day, but if you want to get help the quickest and easiest way, pick up the phone and give them a call.

Bluehost Review

This, being the initial blog entry about Bluehost web hosting, I will briefly cover what Bluehost has to offer. Future blog entries will consist of website speed test results, customer support surveys and whatever else that can be used to measure the compentency of Bluehost. So, let's get into it..

Well, Bluehost has been in business since 1996 which makes them 10 years old. That is a long time for a web hosting company. Thankfully, along with the 10 years of experience comes a lot of experience working with webmasters and knowing what their needs are. Base users get 200GB of disk space and 2,000 GB of bandwidth which is more than enough. You say some hosts give more than that? Yes, you are right. But what hosts do is jam as many sites as they can onto a server and what happens is you get a few hogs that bog the server down for all the other sites. Bluehost maintains a responsible approached to managing shared hosting services to maximize space for webmasters to grow their sites, yet without sacrificing speed and quality.

Full customer support by phone or email is provided 24/7. All servers support the normal languages and databases you would expect like, PHP, CGI, MySql, but also supports things like Ruby on Rails(ROR) and the latest versions of Wordpress and other related programs.

In my next Bluehost Review entry I will relay some of my experiences with Bluehost staff.
